Planning and Assessment Studies

Community Planning

Community Planning is an essential process for establishing core needs and setting a blueprint for future development and growth with public participation.  It is key to provide realistic approaches that can be implemented without encountering major roadblocks, a balance between cost effectiveness and delivering on the community vision must be achieved.  KAL has extensive experience with the development of comprehensive community plans.

Environmental Assessments

We provide environmental assessments as required under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, and under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.

Building and Infrastructure Condition Assessments

It is vital to plan for the long-term sustainability of buildings and infrastructure. KAL works with organizations and communities to prepare building and/or infrastructure asset inventories, condition surveys, and assessments that are used to design master plans for identifying and prioritizing repairs, upgrades, and replacement plans.

Traffic Studies

Traffic analysis such as traffic counts, forecasting, level of service analysis, signal warrant analysis, and signal design are provided by KAL in the form of a Traffic Analysis Study when required as a precursor to implementing roadway or development projects.

Survey, Material Testing and Inspection Services

GPS and Total Station Surveys

Utilizing GPS and total station surveying instruments, KAL performs engineering survey services.  Whether you require topographic information or grade/alignment checks, we have the resources to chart your environment.

Granular Compaction Control (Nuclear Densometer)

KAL uses nuclear densometers to provide rapid quality control checks on granular compaction in the field. 

Certified Concrete Field Testing

Our techs are certified to field sample and test concrete in accordance with CSA A23.2.

Building Enclosure Testing

KAL’s techs are equipped to test for building air tightness and thermal performance.
