Lac Seul First Nation Arena Design-Build

The project was delivered under a Design-Build contract and is an excellent example of the KAL team capabilities in the role of Owner Advocate.  The new 1,000 seat Ice Hockey Arena (NHL regulation size) totalling 27,200 sq. ft. is fully integrated with an 11,100 sq. ft. Conference Centre.  The Arena Facility and Conference Centre operates year-round and provides an important community asset that meets the recreation needs of the First Nation and generates local job and economic opportunities.  An integrated project team approach was used to transform our client’s vision into an efficient venue for promoting a healthy and active lifestyle for the community and surrounding area.  Community-based facilities play an important role in enhancing the quality of life through social, cultural and recreational activity; the Lac Seul Event Centre brings this role to fruition. The facility also provides a first-class venue for various events including the Outdoor Show, concerts, regional conferences and numerous community events.

The project was fast tracked starting in the fall with an intensive collaborative design process leading to an early commencement of foundation work late in the fall.  The challenges of winter construction were well-controlled and did not significantly impact schedule or costs.  Detailed design proceeded concurrently with construction during the winter months.  Changes were primarily limited to Owner requested improvements.  These enhancements included such features as a sound system and commercial kitchen.
