Frenchman’s Head School

From the outset of the project, it was important that this new educational facility for the community of Frenchman’s Head in Lac Seul First Nation be one that is modern, functional, inspiring, safe, and reflective of cultural values. From the beginning of KAL’s involvement, engagement and dialogue with the local community was initiated to integrate direct input from the community members, elders, and the First Nation’s teaching authority in the design.

The school was oriented on an east-west axis to permit the main entry to face the rising sun and to provide a traditional cultural orientation resembling the medicine wheel. The gym features a retractable stage for space saving measures, and bleachers.
